Originally created a decade ago, the Nike LeBron 9 "Watch The Throne"s are a direct homage to Kanye West and Jay-Z's 2011 album of the same name. The basketball shoes celebrated the now legendary album's artwork and the aesthetic, for which Virgil Abloh did the art direction. The cover art for Watch The Throne was created by Riccardo Tisci, which served as the inspiration for the golden lace jewel. Tisci also designed the tour outfits for Ye and Hov, explaining the black and gold get-up of the sneakers as well as the patterned laces, referencing the designers immensely popular work at Givenchy at the time.
The LeBron 9 "Watch The Throne" was originally only made available for Kanye West, Jay-Z, LeBron James and a select number of his family and friends. Some pairs have found their way to resale platforms over the years, fetching prices in the thousands.
