Introduced as a diffusion line of A Bathing Ape in 2009, Ursus Bape was helmed by BAPE's own NIGO® and Tetsu Nishiyama of WTAPS and FORTY PERCENT AGAINST RIGHTS. Inspired by General Ursus from the second Planet of the Apes movie, the line deviates from the graphic heavy and colorful aesthetic of 2000s A Bathing Ape. In Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970) the gorilla General Ursus led the Ape forces in the quest to wipe out the humans beyond the forbidden zone. While Ursus Bape certainly wasn't a military sub-line, there were lots of hints in the designs and styling. TET, who is most known for his military aesthetics, was a natural fit to help his friend NIGO® with this new project.
