A great issue of relax magazine covering many lifestyle topics from Japan and around the world. The self-proclaimed "fabulous magazine for man in café" includes three special features this time.
The first one being a report on the favorite bowl dishes of a select group of creative people.
Taking up the most attention is the second special feature, which is simultaneously the cover story for this issue. It is an extensive piece on the late Keith Haring, who had passed away almost a decade before. Read all about his love for music and dance, check out some artwork and products coming out, including a Supreme collab. Also, learn about Haring's relationship with the city of Tokyo, where he actually opened a short-lived Pop Shop in 1988.
The final feature of the three mentioned on the cover is about Chappie's foray into music. Created as a rather blank graphic design by Groovisions, Chappie is a widely customizable character, which companies can use for their campaigns and marketing efforts. The character became quite popular in the 90s and in 1999 Sony Music Entertainment Japan decided to use Chappie for a special music project. After some EPs, an entire album titled "New Chappie" was released. A wide variety of artists from different genres contributed to the album, creating an eclectic but cohesive record.
As an appendix gift for the March 1999 issue, relax included a 7" flexi disc of "Chappie's Attack" – the "Quest the Groove Mix" though –, a song from New Chappie, which came out in October of the same year. You will need a regular record player to listen to the disc. We recommend putting a coin on top of it while playing it to put some weight on the very light disc.
Additionally, this issue features a special "NIGO's General Seminar", documenting the Worldwide Bape Heads Show 1998, "The Speaker by Hikaru x Endoh", product recommendations, photoshoots and many more recurring segments.
Condition: The magazine is in great condition, especially considering the age. Only basic signs of usage. Minor yellowing and discoloration due to age.
