Son Goku Pig SD-301 Selvedge Denim
Brand: Studio D'Artisan
Made in Japan
Materials: 100% Cotton
This pair of Studio D'Artisan SD-301 denims masterfully depicts one of the most famous and iconic characters in Chinese folklore: Sun Wukong, better known in Japan as Son Goku (also the inspiration for Dragon Ball's main character). The 16th century novel "Journey to the West" by author Wu Cheng'en tells the story of a monk who sets out to the west (Central Asia / the Indian subcontinent) to obtain sacred texts. On his journey he is accompanied by 3 characters, one of them being the Monkey King Sun Wukong. Studio D'Artisan cheekily changed the character into a pig, but kept his trademark staff and cloud-riding abilities intact.
Made of Japanese denim from the Okayama region, this pair combines the perhaps most famous East Asian story with the most widely worn item of clothing in the world. As the first of the Osaka Five brands, Studio D'Artisan weaves their denim on traditional shuttle looms and creates high end jeans complete with selvedge seams. This particular pair offers an additional avant-garde approach by incorporating paintings in a traditional East Asian art style.
